Segnaliamo ai lettori una lettera e un appello relativo agli studi di popular music. L’etnomusicologia e altre simili discipline, che pure in Italia hanno avuto una grande tradizione – basti ricordare Ernesto De Martino – rischiano di essere strangolate dall’articolazione del sapere in settori a compartimenti stagni e da procedure di reclutamento mal disegnate.
Egregio Ministro dell’Istruzione, dell’Università e della Ricerca,
nei giorni scorsi abbiamo redatto un documento sullo stato degli studi sulla popular music nell’università italiana, preoccupati dal loro mancato riconoscimento e dalle conseguenti difficoltà, anche gravi, per gli studiosi italiani del campo. Il documento, qui allegato, è stato sottoscritto da quasi un centinaio di colleghi (musicologi, etnomusicologi, sociologi, studiosi di cultural studies e di sound studies, musicisti, addetti dell’industria musicale) di tutto il mondo, anche italiani. Ci uniamo a loro anche per sottolineare l’importanza di un campo di studi che riguarda le musiche di gran lunga più praticate e consumate nel mondo, che tanta rilevanza hanno nei comportamenti dei giovani e anche dei cittadini di ogni età, che le ascoltano per ore ogni giorno — senza dimenticare il valore economico di settori come l’industria discografica ed editoriale, i social media, la radio e la televisione, eccetera.
Tra i firmatari ci sono figure di primissimo piano degli studi musicali nel mondo. Non vogliamo, ovviamente, che il documento appaia come un’interferenza nella politica accademica italiana. D’altra parte, gli studi sulla popular music sono diffusi da decenni in moltissimi Paesi, i colleghi italiani sono stimati dappertutto, e ci sembra davvero un’anomalia inspiegabile il fatto che debbano essere emarginati e impediti nelle loro carriere (si veda il caso del prof. Franco Fabbri, uno dei pionieri nel campo) da un ordinamento che non prevede l’esistenza di un settore disciplinare autonomo.

Mi scuso per intervenire tra i primi, ma ho appena concluso una conversazione con un collega su un argomento identico, sebbene settore diverso. Purtroppo è così: questi cosiddetti concorsi locali, aperti o meno, sono banditi in funzione di un parametraggio complicato, dove rientra anche il, diciamo, ‘peso didattico’. Tra mille altri criteri, complicabili o gerachizzabili ad arte. Il dipartimento stila una graduatoria o lista di attesa, dal momento che di solito non è possibile bandire insieme tutti i concorsi. Se la prima tornata è più o meno garantita, non si può sapere cosa succederà con le successive, che tra l’altro si sovrapporranno agli esiti della prossima abilitazione. E posso aggiungere che individualmente a nessuno interessa – sebbene l’istituzione in sé e i suoi dirigenti dovrebbero tenerlo presente – cosa succede al collega abilitato; ognuno cerca di promuovere se stesso. Era prevedibile che questa giungla potesse svilupparsi e che questo appesantisse (avvelenasse) ancor di più l’atmosfera. Ma come diceva Fantoni pilatescamente: la cosa non riguarda più l’Anvur; loro hanno fatto ciò che il ministero voleva, che colpa hanno delle conseguenze? Che uno ci rimetta la possibilità di migliorare la propria carriera e di continuare ad operare all’interno dell’istituzione? Cosa interessa al prof. Fantoni, al Miur? Però dovrebbe interessare l’istituzione di appartenenza. Auguri!
… come dire che gli affreschi della Cappella Sistina non sarebbero stati valutati a Michelangelo in quanto appartenenete al ssd “scultura del rinascimento”…
